Researchers from the ICN2 Nanomedicine Lab and the University of Manchester have identified specific time windows after glioblastoma surgery during which the blood–brain barrier becomes more permeable. This creates an opportunity to deliver nanoparticle-based therapeutics more effectively. The results showed that therapeutic liposomes accumulated in greater amounts at the tumour resection margin, reducing disease recurrence in different preclinical models of aggressive and infiltrative brain cancer.
