The study, published in Nature, presents Kine, a new dynamic imaging algorithm developed at the IAA-CSIC for very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations, initially conceived to obtain videos of supermassive black holes with the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). Applied to 27 years of observations of the blazar 3C 345, Kine allows for detailed tracking of the speed and direction of plasma movement in different areas of the jet and suggests that its bright structures are not shock waves, as had been previously assumed.
