ICIQ hosts LUCES COST Action Young Career Researchers and Innovators networking meeting

On 1-2 September, ICIQ hosted a networking workshop as part of the LUCES COST Action, which focuses on Supramolecular Luminescent Chemosensors for Environmental Security. The event was organised by Dr. Gemma Aragay, Group Scientific Coordinator in Prof. Pau Ballester’s group at ICIQ, which is part of the LUCES network.

The two-day meeting brought together 12 Young Career Researchers and Innovators (YRIs) from research institutions across Europe, providing a platform to exchange scientific ideas and foster new connections among researchers at a similar stage of their early independent careers.

The first day was dedicated to scientific exchange, with each participant presenting their research interests and recent work in the field of supramolecular sensing. The programme also provided an opportunity to discuss career development, professional experiences and the challenges associated with the transition to research independence.

The second day, focused on future collaboration within the LUCES network. A dedicated session addressed the LUCES gender equality plan, funding schemes and potential joint initiatives, including Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs), collaborative grant applications and shared use of research facilities.

The event reinforced LUCES’ commitment to build a strong international research community in supramolecular luminescent chemosensors.

About LUCES

The main goal of LUCES is the creation of a multidisciplinary network, comprised of researchers with complementary expertise from academia, technological centers and industry, working towards the development of luminescent sensors to be used to help resolve environmental security problems. The luminescent signaling unit will confer a high sensitivity to the sensor and be activated following the molecular recognition event.

The Action will gather the leading research groups in the field of supramolecular chemistry, chemical sensors, (nano)materials, electronics, theoretical calculations as well as experts in different analytical techniques, researchers from industry and interested stakeholders, in order to be able to fulfil all the requirements to arrive to bridge the gap between fundamental research and the market.
