ICIQ receives four new Joan Oró grants for predoctoral researchers in training

The Department of Research and Universities of the Government of Catalonia, through the Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR), has awarded four new Joan Oró grants for the hiring of predoctoral researchers in training (FI) at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ). These grants will allow the incorporation of new early-stage researchers into the Catalan research system.

ICIQ is firmly committed to training and inspiring the next generation of leaders in the field of chemistry. Our goal is to offer an environment of scientific excellence, creativity, and collaboration that enables young researchers to develop their full potential. With this vision, receiving the Joan Oró program grants represents an open door to unique opportunities for research and professional development.

The Joan Oró grants for hiring predoctoral researchers in training contribute to promoting the training and research activities of the contracted researchers and to increasing their qualifications and professionalization during the initial stages of their research careers (R1). In this sense, the grants aim to retain and attract scientific talent.

The new beneficiaries of the grants are:

– Akhmet Bekaliyev, in the group led by Dr. Carla Casadevall. Project: Compartmentalized solar energy conversion. (REF. 2025 FI-1 00433)
– Eva Jaramillo Cassà, in the group of Prof. Rubén Martin. Project: Ni-catalyzed asymmetric cross-coupling reactions. (REF. 2025 FI-1 00157)
– Neus Munar Barceló, in the research group of Prof. Katherine Villa. Project: 3D-printed Photocatalytic Materials for Environmental and Energy Applications. (REF. 2025 FI-1 00158)
– Guillem Pey Costa, in the group of Prof. Julio Lloret-Fillol. Project: Impact of External Electric Fields on the Transition Metal Complex Catalysis. (REF. 2025 FI-1 01096)

All current Joan Oró grants at ICIQ have also been renewed. This program is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) and aligns with the European Union’s policy priorities to build a greener, digital, and more resilient Europe.
