ICIQ has successfully wrapped up this year’s edition of its prestigious ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme. The initiative brought together a group of national and international undergraduate students, offering them the chance to immerse themselves in a cutting-edge research environment focused on key fields such as catalysis, renewable energies, computational chemistry, and sustainable materials.
During their internships, the summer fellows worked directly alongside renowned international principal investigators, receiving hands-on mentorship and daily supervision from PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Beyond conducting laboratory research and utilizing the state-of-the-art facilities at the center, the students actively participated in ICIQ’s training activities, attending scientific seminars, lectures, and professional development sessions.
To mark the end of the programme, the fellows presented a summary of their research projects and key results to the ICIQ scientific community, showcasing high academic rigor and outstanding dedication throughout the summer.
Fostering the next generation of scientific talent
The ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme stands as one of the institute’s cornerstone initiatives for identifying and nurturing young scientific talent.
As noted by Prof. Antonio M. Echavarren, ICIQ Group Leader and Scientific Director of the Severo Ochoa Programme at the Institute:

For many participants, the fellowship serves as a launchpad for their academic careers, with many returning to ICIQ to pursue their Master’s degrees or PhD studies in the future.
With the successful completion of this edition—supported by the ICIQ Severo Ochoa Accreditation—the institute reinforces its commitment to scientific excellence and to training the early-stage researchers who will drive tomorrow’s chemical innovations.
The closing ceremony took place yesterday, 25 August 2026, and was chaired by Prof. Beatriz Prieto-Simón, Group Leader at ICIQ.
