Representatives from centres and units accredited under the Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu (SO/MM) excellence programmes met in Tarragona on 18 and 19 June 2026 for the SOMMa research management meeting. Jointly organised by the CERCA centres Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES-CERCA) and the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), the event brought together professionals involved in research management to share experiences and discuss topics of common interest.
The first day took place at IPHES-CERCA and began with a welcome session led by its Director, Marina Mosquera. Participants then attended a working session with representatives from the State Research Agency (AEI), who presented updates on the latest SO/MM calls and reporting procedures and answered questions from attendees.

The second day was hosted at ICIQ, where participants were welcomed by the institute’s Administrative Director, Imma Escofet. The programme also included a visit to ICIQ’s facilities, offering attendees an opportunity to learn more about the institute and its research environment.

Throughout the meeting, participants discussed a range of topics relevant to research management, including mobility programmes for researchers, exchanges between SO/MM management staff and career development initiatives. Sessions were also dedicated to addres issues identified by the network’s working group.

Beyond the working sessions, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for colleagues from different institutions to connect in person, compare approaches and continue conversations on shared challenges and opportunities across the SOMMa network.

This project has received funding from the Spanish State Research Agency/Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the “Severo Ochoa” Centres of Excellence Programme 2024 (CEX2024-001469-S, MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033).
