The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) participated in the 2025 edition of Pint of Science in Tarragona with a talk by Marta Llorens Fons, scientific communications officer. Her presentation was part of the session “Entre bits, birres i Big Bangs”, held on 20 May at Sala Zero Tarragona.
“It was an interesting opportunity to rethink how we communicate scientific content beyond academic spaces,” said Marta. “Adapting the message to a general audience in a casual setting is both a challenge and a rewarding experience.”
Pint of Science is an international outreach initiative launched in 2013 with the aim of bringing science closer to society by hosting talks in informal settings such as pubs and cafés. The festival runs simultaneously in multiple cities around the world and features researchers from a wide range of disciplines sharing their work in accessible language.
Victor Molina, member of the Pint of Science Tarragona organising team and the DivulgaTGN association, noted: “The main goal of this event is to create a direct and accessible dialogue between researchers and society, explaining what they do to improve our present and, especially our future. It also helps to break the gap between scientist from different field of knowledge to learn, share and build a nice net on our area. Every edition helps normalise science as a fundamental part of our society.”
This year marked the eighth edition of the festival in Tarragona. ICIQ has taken part in several previous editions, supporting the festival’s mission to promote public engagement with science and research through accessible formats, and this year all the activity around Pint of Science has been promoted in the framework of the actions of the European project ERN-ApuliaMED, HORIZON-MSCA-2023-CITIZENS-01 – GA 101162513 aimed at enhancing mutual engagement between the public and the research community.
