ADVANCE GENOMICS TECHNOLOGIES TEAM LEADER

The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' ( https://www.crg.eu/en/content/careers/hr-excellence-research) Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers ( https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/charter/european-charter) and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code) ( https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/charter/code).

Inside the Genomics Unit and with the coordination of the Head of the Unit, the mission of the ADVANCE GENOMICS TECHNOLOGIES TEAM LEADER will be to define and coordinate the implementation of new genomics technologies, applications and protocols that are strategic for the Genomics Unit and the CRG institute.

The candidate will manage and oversee the operations of the Advance Genomics Technologies team to ensure progress towards - and consistency with - the strategic objectives of the Institute.

This includes:

Coordinating the work of the team and assign the required resources to efficiently reach the objectives.

Monitoring the work and reporting advances to the head of Genomics Unit

Transferring the knowledge to the Service Genomics team (in a clear and consistent written format)

Actively apply for grants for new applications, protocols, and technology developments

About the Genomics Unit

The scope of the Genomics Unit is to provide excellent, cutting-edge services in the fields of next-generation sequencing (NGS). The team is led by Dr. Berta Fusté and composed of 10 highly experienced in NGS technologies technicians. The Unit is also dedicated to test, implement, and to develop new genomic applications that are of relevance to the CRG and its lines of research.

The Unit is equipped with a wide range of short-read sequencing instruments from Illumina (1 Novaseq6000, 1 Nextseq2000, 1 Nextseq500, 1 MiSeq, and 1 iSeq100), and it has a long-read sequencing instrument from Oxford Nanopore Technologies (1 MinION). The unit is also prepared with all the instrumentation for DNA and RNA quality control and NGS library preparation, including 2 TECAN robots for automation of protocols.

The Genomics Unit is embedded in the CRG Core Technologies Programme that includes the technology units of proteomics, bioinformatics, protein technologies, tissue engineering, flow cytometry and advanced light microscopy. The programme is directed by Mònica Morales and all units collaborate strongly in the setup and implementation of transversal workflows and technologies across units.
