The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The role

In the cytometry unit we have bought new cell sorters. This equipment requires constant assistance and therefore it is necessary to have an operator constantly monitoring the equipment and the experiments.

About the unit

The Cytometry Unit, one of the most advanced in Europe, has four analysers (2x LSRII 2 and 4lasers, Fortessa 4 lasers and Aurora 4 lasers) and three high speed cell sorters (BD Influx 5 lasers, BD FACSAria 5 lasers, Bigfoot 7 lasers). During next months, the fourth cell sorter (BD FACSdiscoved S8 5 lasers with Cell View) will arrive, and it will be operative in September.

With all this technology we can cover all user’s needs. The unit has more than 500 users. Every year we assist about 300 users from different research groups of our institute and from other ones, at national and international level.

Currently, the Unit is composed by 4 staff (technical operations manager and flow cytometry expert lab technicians) and the Head of Unit. All are involved in user’s assistance and in part in the research projects of the Unit in a highly dynamic and international environment.

The unit also develops advanced cytometry applications to offer it to researchers, such as the isolation of chromosomes, extracellular vesicles or individualized viruses.

Whom would we like to hire?

Professional experience
Must Have

Have a minimum 4 years of experience in general flow cytometry and cell sorting.

Have proven experience in cell sorting using FACSaria or similar BD cell sorter.

Desirable but not required/ Nice to have

Experience in spectral cytometry

Experience operating BD Influx and Bigfoot cell sorters.

Education and training

You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Life Sciences or similar.


You are fluent in English

Contract duration: Open-ended contract linked to the project duration (estimated 18 months)

Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales

Selection Process

Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise reflected on the candidates CVS. It will be merit-based.

Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and a selection panel if required.
