Job description:

The Molecular Oncology Group is seeking a data-image engineer to design and manage databases (mainly images databases for digital pathology and digital radiology), assist in new algorithm development, and web applications for translational and clinical research. Also, define and work on software integrations between different platforms for algorithm application in routine care or research. Applicants must have a degree in Data Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science, and those with degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or other related fields will be considered if they have proven experience in programming, data management and software development.

It is critical for applicants to stay up to date with the latest developments in systems and coding, self-learn new technologies, and gradually become more autonomous. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with the team.

– Image processing, image analysis and image understanding for clinical research.
– ETL, Data Integration and Data quality, image indexing and image application management.
– Analyze, design, and develop new tools for clinical research.
– Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
– Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.


Degree in Software Engineering or Computer science is essential. Applicants with degrees in biomedical engineering, bioinformatics or other related fields will be considered if they can prove experience in programming and software development.
A passion for solving problems and providing workable solutions.
Strong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
Outstanding communication skills and ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team.
Fluent technical communication skills in English.
Experience in modern programming object-oriented languages, especially Python.
Experience in image processing and image analysis. Visiopharm, Raimviewer, Starviewer, SyngoVia, Kaapana, Odelia, Dicom format, xnat format will also be favourably considered.
Experience with relational databases and SQL.
Experience working within ETL and Data Integration
Experience within Data Integration and common challenges faced with diverse data sets and data quality.
Experience with API integrations.
Experience working with infrastructure automation technologies like Docker.

Additional information:


Full-time position: 40h/week
Starting date: immediate
Gross annual salary will depend on experience and skills. and always guaranteeing the minimum remuneration established in the VHIO collective agreement for each professional category.

This role will be part of the Digital Oncology Group (Ref. 2021SGR1571) lead by the Molecular Oncology Group and integrated by the Cancer Computational Biology group, the Radiomics Group, the Oncology Data Science Group and the Bioinformatic Unit in various projects, including collaboration with Vall d’Hebron hospital. The main goal of the Digital Oncology Group is to accelerate the research and implementation of cutting-edge data science models and technology platforms in the healthcare domain for personalization of patient care at VHIO by developing a platform for integration of digital health and data science for cancer research and clinical applications.

This role involves working closely with the IT Department and the Severo Ochoa Digitalization Unit.
