The Vall d´Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) Seeks a “Bioinformatician/Data Scientist”
Reference: Ref. 50-2023
Application deadline: 30 June 2023
Number of vacancies: 1
The Cancer Computational Biology group (PI Jose A. Seoane) at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) in Barcelona (Spain) is looking for a computational biologist to fill a bioinformatician / data scientist position.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with an interest in the development and application of computational tools to analyze cancer omics data. We are seeking a computational scientist with an interest in cancer research.
Research projects may involve, but not limited to:
- Epigenetic data analysis: What is the role of epigenetic modifications in drug resistance, cancer progression, or metastasis?
- Multi-omic analysis: Application or development of tools that successfully integrate different modalities of genomic or clinical data.
- Biomarker discovery: Development of new biomarkers of cancer progression, drug resistance, and metastasis using machine learning techniques.
For more information, you can visit our group website: https://vhio.net/pf/cancer-computational-biology-group/
The candidate will participate in the research projects from the lab and has the opportunity to collaborate with world-leading biologists/physicians of the different groups of VHIO and external collaborators. The group supports the participation of the candidate in (inter)national scientific conferences and the publication of the obtained results in high-impact journals.
The group supports a healthy work-life balance and offers a two years full-time (40 hours) appointment.
We will consider highly motivated candidates with an MSc in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related fields. Candidates should have experience in data science, machine learning, or bioinformatics. Experience in the analysis of genomics, cancer, and/or epigenetics-related datasets is desired but not required.
Language requirements: English.
Please send an application to Jose A. Seoane (email@example.com) including:
- Cover letter with previous research experience, current and future research interest, including expected starting date.
- Names and contacts of 2 referees.
Under the leadership of Josep Tabernero, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), has established itself as a comprehensive cancer center of proven excellence internationally. It is also thanks to VHIO’s optimal organizational structure based on a purely multidisciplinary and translational model that VHIO talents continue to anticipate and tackle the many unresolved questions in combatting this multifaceted and heterogeneous disease.
Located within the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus, our researchers closely collaborate and interact with Vall d’Hebron physician-scientists. Translational science and clinical research are therefore tightly connected which promotes superb interaction and teamwork which, in turn, accelerates the bench-bedside-bed cycle of knowledge. This privileged environment affords VHIO direct access to patients as well as the entire spectrum of oncology professionals who care for them, and a second-to-none appreciation of how cancer science can translate into more powerful, targeted treatments and better practice for the care of patients.
VHIO’s pioneering model and programs, coupled with its belief in combining strengths through cross-border collaborations, continue to spur advances in reversing cancer resistance, halting metastatic spread, and more effectively treating even the most undruggable tumor types.
