Research Assistant for EARLY Project

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ISGlobal is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Research Assistant focusing on youth mental health determinants. The candidate will work closely with the ISGlobal Health Economics Group and collaborate with partners from the H2020 EARLY project. The position and salary will be determined based on the candidate’s skills and experience.

The EARLY project is a collaborative initiative aimed at advancing the understanding of mental health challenges across Europe and beyond. EARLY brings together 19 institutions from 14 countries, including academic partners and key stakeholders. The project’s goal is to strengthen knowledge and develop targeted, evidence-based intervention strategies to support youth mental health.
Within this framework, the research assistant will contribute to a range of activities, including systematic reviews, qualitative research, survey development, and data analysis, supporting efforts to improve exposure measurement and data integration for youth mental health research.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the integration of relevant data sources into a dataset on youth mental health determinants.
- Identify gaps in existing exposure datasets through qualitative research and stakeholder engagement.
-Oversee the implementation of a cross-sectional survey, ensuring proper monitoring of data collection.
- Contribute to the advancement of evidence on youth mental health determinants through a systematic review and research synthesis.
- Facilitate effective collaboration with project partners to ensure consistency in methodologies and outputs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Support the development of the Living Common Dataset by identifying and reviewing datasets related to youth mental health determinants and systematically extracting relevant information.
- Design and implement a qualitative study to identify missing risk factors in existing datasets, coordinating engagement with relevant stakeholders and research partners.
- Contribute to the refinement and execution of a cross-sectional survey, assisting with finalisation, monitoring online data collection, and supporting data analysis as needed.
- Participate in the finalisation of a systematic review, conducting quality checks, completing data extraction, and contributing to the manuscript write-up.
- Analyse and interpret research findings using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods, contributing to the overall objectives of the EARLY project.
- Prepare research outputs, including written reports, academic publications, and presentations for dissemination to scientific and policy audiences.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree or higher in public health, epidemiology, psychology, health economics, social sciences, or a related field.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Prior experience in research related to youth mental health, social determinants of health, or related topics is desirable.
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including the validation of instruments used in research.
- Experience conducting literature reviews and systematic reviews.
- Familiarity with the systematic review software Covidence is preferred.
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English, with experience in drafting scientific reports or manuscripts for publication. Knowledge of Spanish is an advantage.
- Ability to synthesise complex information and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

LANGUAGE LEVEL
- Excellent command of English.
- Proficiency in Spanish is an advantage
