Research Assistant Switch Project

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), offers a full-time research assistant position until December 2026 within the Horizon research project SWITCH (Switching European food systems for a just, healthy and sustainable dietary transition through knowledge and innovation).

About the project:

The overall of the project is to improve understanding of knowledge, accessibility and facilitation gaps that limit present large-scale adoption of sustainable and healthy diets among European citizens and to develop and demonstrate appropriate innovative solutions and tools to facilitate a just transition towards healthy and sustainable dietary behaviour at all levels considering the multifactor food system in EU. Research activities will be conducted at BC3 in close collaboration with international research institutions and food system stakeholders.

Job description:

The Research Assistant will support the analysis, synthesis and reporting of project results, contributing to both technical scientific outputs and policy-oriented documents related to food systems and climate change. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Inmaculada Batalla and Dr. María José Sanz, in accordance with BC3’s standards of scientific conduct and research ethics.

Key responsabilities:

Main tasks will include (but are not limited to):

Management, processing and analysis of datasets related to food systems, climate impacts and sustainability.
Support in the preparation of technical reports and project deliverables summarising research results for the European Commission.
Contribution to the drafting of policy-oriented documents, briefs and synthesis reports based on project findings.
Participation in the documentation and reporting of activities conducted within the project, including case studies and actions developed in the Food Hub in the Basque Country.
Assistance in the preparation of scientific outputs, including contributions to peer-reviewed publications where relevant.
Main requirements/skills:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field relevant to the project.
Experience in database management and data analysis.
Experience or strong interest in food systems, climate change and sustainability assessment.
Ability to synthesise complex scientific information into clear technical and non-technical reports.
Ability to work in multidisciplinary research teams and contribute to multiple project tasks.
Flexibility to collaborate in existing research projects.
Desire to work in a diverse and multi-disciplinary research environment.
Interest in applied research and science-based reporting with societal relevance
Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) in English and Spanish.
