BIO Innovation Manager – Innovation Department

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases. What We Are Looking for
ISGlobal is seeking a BIO Innovation Manager interested in performing Knowledge and Technology transfer activities in the ISGlobal Innovation Department by managing innovative research projects with market transfer potential. The ISGlobal Innovation Department is devited to translate new knowledge into equitable solutions for global public health needs.


Training /Qualifications
Bachelor degree, Master or PhD in the field of Life Sciences or Bio-Engineering.
MBA and Innovation training will be a plus.

Specific Requirements
- Minimum of 5 year’s experience in health innovation management of bio projects.

- Knowledge, skills and professional experience in the areas of:

Biotechnology, biomedical or bioengineering research
Knowledge and technology transfer
Business development
Data analysis
Patent portfolio management (with the support of external patent attorneys)
Project management
Knowledge of the Catalan, national and European science, technology and innovation systems as well as of the technology transfer procedures and associated regulations will be a plus.

Key Responsibilities
Perform Knowledge and Technology transfer activities of the ISGlobal Innovation department mainly for innovative projects with a biological/biotechnological component.


Specific Duties
- Support the knowledge and technology transfer process of innovative projects:

- Manage the bio innovation project portfolio in alignment with the ISGlobal Innovation strategy based on three pillars: train, grow and impact.

- Drive the innovation process bringing ideas from concept to market fit as follows:

Scout internal bio innovation projects applying the idea disclosure form.
Define and implement IPR strategy managing patents, trademarks, etc.
Perform fundraising activities at national and international level for the development of innovative projects in coordination with researchers.
Business Development: Perform industry search promoting public-private collaboration for the effective market transfer of the project portfolio. Valuation and implementation of exploitation strategies (i.e. licensing, spin-off creation) for the new technologies (with the support of external partners when possible).
Elaborate co-ownership and exploitation agreements, co-development and licensing agreements with companies, research institutions, scientific parks, public health agencies in collaboration with the ISGlobal legal department.
Support spin-off creation.
- Follow up license portfolio

- Support quality accreditation activities (i.e. ISO 9001)

- Follow up innovation KPIs and perform reports.

- Propose new methodologies and best practices to improve the KTT process.

- Promotion of innovative culture inside and outside the organization.

- Contribute to innovation training activities.

- Fulfill other related specific assignments.
