Science Outreach & Education Officer (Ref: MGMT 2023-14)

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Science Outreach and Education Officer to work in the Outreach Unit.

This position will be funded by the State Research Agency/Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the “Severo Ochoa” Centres of Excellence Program 2019 (CEX2019-000925-S, MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, 2020-2024).
ICIQ is one of the world’s internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas: Sustainable Catalysis, Renewable Energy and Health. The Science Outreach and Education Officer will be responsible for raising public awareness of chemical research as key factor in the progress of a sustainable society. S/he will particularly establish and maintain a close relationship with the educational community and institutions ICIQ collaborates with. The person will possess excellent communication skills, capable of working with people of all ages, and ability to create engagement content.
S/he will report to the Outreach Manager and will work in close collaboration with ICIQ group leaders and researchers.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Support in designing and implementing ICIQ’s strategy for outreach and education programs and activities, in particular, those directly related to the ICIQ Severo Ochoa Strategic Plan 2020-2024 (CEX2019-000925-S, MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, 2020-2024).
• Coordinate and carry out ICIQ’s current activities (courses, workshops, science fairs, online resources).
• Outreach laboratory management (safety, logistics, maintenance).
• Elaborate proposals for new outreach and education activities and foster collaborations with other institutions promoting science education.
• Participate in writing science outreach projects to obtain funding from private and public institutions.
• Create educational content and materials.
• Contribute to other communication initiatives within the Communications Unit.

Candidate’s Profile:
• Finished degree in Chemistry is required (please note that having a PhD might be an advantage).
• Training in scientific communication and proven experience in science outreach and education.
• Good English level (C1), Catalan (preferably C1) and Spanish.
• Ability to interact with faculty, students, co-workers and the general public in a professional manner.
