The Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) is leading a multi-frequency study that incorporates radio observations into previous investigations at other wavelengths of the heart of the galaxy NGC 4438. The results suggest that the gas winds detected in the central region of NGC 4438 could be driven by a very narrow jet of particles—a radio jet—emerging from the vicinity of the galaxy’s central black hole.
