ICIQ has joined the Asociación Española del Amoniaco Renovable

Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ) has officially joined the Spanish Renewable Ammonia Association (AEAR), a multi-sector organisation that brings together the main scientific, industrial and technological stakeholders involved in the development of renewable ammonia in Spain.

Renewable ammonia is regarded as one of the most promising energy carriers for the storage and transport of energy derived from renewable sources, as well as a key alternative for the decarbonisation of hard-to-electrify industrial sectors.

ICIQ’s incorporation into AEAR reinforces its role in science-industry collaboration spaces, facilitating knowledge transfer and participation in strategic projects linked to the energy transition. This partnership will enable the institute to strengthen its connection with the needs of the industrial ecosystem and contribute to the development of technological solutions with a real impact on the energy market.

ICIQ has extensive experience in sustainable catalysis, green chemistry and processes for the valorisation of key molecules in the energy transition, including the production and use of hydrogen and derivatives such as ammonia. These research lines are essential for advancing towards more efficient, lower-carbon energy systems.

For its part, AEAR, founded in 2023, promotes the development of the entire renewable ammonia value chain, from research and technological innovation through to production, distribution and industrial application.

For ICIQ, this membership represents an opportunity to expand the impact of its research, anticipate technological and regulatory trends, and strengthen its contribution to the transition towards a decarbonised economy.
