Another successful Mad for Chemistry edition comes to a close

The 2025 edition of Bojos per la Química (Mad for Chemistry), ICIQ’s long-standing outreach programme in collaboration with Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, has just concluded after six inspiring months of science, learning and discovery.

For the first time, the programme took place between January and June, maintaining its signature twelve-session format. During this time, twenty highly motivated high school students from all across Catalonia explored the fascinating world of chemistry hands-on, guided by ICIQ researchers who opened the doors of their labs to the next generation of scientists.

“This year’s edition has been particularly special — not only for the great group of students we’ve had, but also because of how we’ve involved families and connected with other Bojos per la Ciència programmes,” says Joan Guillem Mayans, coordinator of the programme at ICIQ. “Seeing these students evolve, ask deeper questions, and feel at home in the lab is what makes it all worth it.”

One of the highlights of this year’s closing ceremony was the participation of Dr. Carla Casadevall, an ICIQ group leader and a Bojos per la Química alumna herself. Carla shared a personal and inspiring video message recorded from her lab, in which she not only congratulated the students for completing the programme but also gave them a glimpse into her daily life as a scientist, encouraging them to follow their curiosity and keep exploring.

Her message was shown during the official joint closing event at Món Sant Benet, which gathered over 1,000 attendees from all tracks of the “Bojos per la Ciència” programme. It was the first time that all students, families and institutions came together in one big event, turning the closing ceremony into a true celebration of young talent and scientific passion.

In addition, ICIQ organised a special family event on site, welcoming the students’ relatives for a morning of chemistry and celebration. Families had the opportunity to visit our facilities and learn more about what their children have been doing in the programme — a moment that brought researchers, students and families even closer together.

ICIQ is proud to support and inspire the next generation of chemists and innovators through Bojos per la Química. We thank all the students for their enthusiasm, the researchers for their dedication, and Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera for another great edition of this transformative programme.
