ICIQ has been awarded funding for the renewal and upgrade of a 500 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) instrument equipped with a cryoprobe under the “Equipamiento Científico Técnico 2025” call from the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades.
The upgrade will modernise a key piece of equipment in ICIQ’s core facilities, ensuring researchers continue to have access to advanced NMR capabilities essential for cutting-edge work in chemistry and catalysis.
Renewal of 500 MHz NMR Instrument with Cryoprobe (EQC2025-009059-P)
The upgrade will renew the radiofrequency electronics system, replace the current QNP cryoprobe with a next-generation BBFO cryoprobe, add a cooling unit, a 60-position autosampler and install a modern workstation to manage all components. These improvements will extend the instrument’s lifespan through updated software compatibility and advanced experiments, while expanding multinuclear detection to key elements studied at ICIQ such as nitrogen, boron, silicon, platinum or tin.
The new cryoprobe will also provide variable temperature control from -40°C to 150°C, a major advance for mechanistic and catalytic studies that currently face limitations in the 20–60°C range. The addition of a 60-position autosampler will enable 24/7 operation, increasing throughput and versatility for high-volume structural characterisation.
The total investment of around €1 million will be co-funded, with 40% provided by the Equipamiento Científico Técnico 2025 grant and the remainder covered by ICIQ.
