LHC Network meeting

The 4th Red LHC workshop takes place this week from Wednesday until Friday online. The IFAE ATLAS group is giving three talks:

  • “New results of the H+->tb search with full Run 2 data” by Adrian Salvador
  • “New results for mono-jet searches with full Run 2 data” by José Luis Muñoz
  • “Leptoquark searches with full Run 2 data” by Stergios Kazakos

Instrumented Baffle integrated in the new payload at EGO clean room

The integration tests of the new instrumented baffle in new IMC payload at the EGO clean room were successful. Also the optical test for TIS in the baffle surface was done succesfully.

Now the Baffle is being sent for optical coating , and the electronics are sent to industry for final assembly.

Deep Detection, new IFAE spin-off that offers new industrial inspection solutions combining X-ray detection and artificial intelligence

Deep Detection is based on a technology developed at IFAE in the Medical Imaging group led by Dr. Mokhtar Chmeissani with the aim of creating medical and industrial applications derived from the knowledge obtained at IFAE in the development of detectors for particle physics experiments.

The ATLAS High Granularity Timing Detector passes the LHCC/UCG reviews

Last week, the ATLAS High Granularity Timing Detector passed the LHCC/UCG reviews. The IFAE ATLAS Pixels group is playing a leading role in sensors (LGADs, with CNM), hybridization, module assembly and ASIC design. The group is also participating in several management positions.

New Member in the Gamma-Ray group

Luis Fariña has joined the Gamma-Ray group as a PhD student. He graduated in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid got his Master’s degree in the Universitat de Barcelona.

IFAE PhD thesis published in Springer

Chiara Rizzi’s PhD Thesis with the title ‘Searches for Supersymmetric Particles in Final States with Multiple Top and Bottom Quarks with the ATLAS Detector’ has been published by Springer. She defended her work at IFAE in October 2018, and her supervisor was Aurelio Juste. After two years as a CERN Fellow, Chiara is starting a second postdoc at University of Geneva.

ESA’s Euclid milestone achieved

The Near-Infrared Spectrometer and Photometer (NISP) has been installed in the Pay Load Module of Euclid’s Flight Model. This is an important milestone for the instrument.
