Centre for Monetary and Financial Studies (CEMFI)

A María de Maeztu unit since 2016

CEMFI is a leading institution for research and graduate education in the fields of Economics and Finance. It was founded by the Bank of Spain in 1987 and became a non-profit foundation in 1991.

CEMFI has an active and stimulating academic environment. Our faculty is a group of 17 internationally-recognised scholars who have made frontier contributions to their fields of expertise.

CEMFI’s graduate education rests on the commitment to provide students with rigorous training in the fields of Economics and Finance.

In collaboration with the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, CEMFI offers two graduate programs: the Master in Economics and Finance and the PhD in Economics and Government. Both programs have a long trajectory of successful placements. Complementing these offerings, we also organise a Summer School that provides specialised frontier training to practitioners, academics, and graduate students.

CEMFI’s 2017-2021 Strategic Plan sets two main goals: to strengthen CEMFI as a leading world-class research institution in Economics and to expand and reinforce the Ph.D. program. The Maria de Maeztu funds will be key to successfully achieve these goals.
