Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICMAT)

A Severo Ochoa center since 2011

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICMAT) is a joint research centre constituted by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and three Madrid universities: Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), and Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). It was created in 2007 and since 2010 the ICMAT is located on the UAM Cantoblanco campus (Madrid, Spain).

The ICMAT conducts research in all branches of mathematics, offers doctoral and post-doctoral training courses, organises international events and promotes dissemination activities.

In 2011, 2015 and 2019 the ICMAT was awarded the Severo Ochoa Excellence label. In May 2016, the ICMAT became a member of ERCOM (European Research Centres on Mathematics), the EMS (European Mathematical Society) Committee. Since its foundation, ICMAT researchers have been awarded a total of twelve ERC grants. The ICMAT is part of the strategic line `Theoretical Physics and Mathematics´ of the Campus of International Excellence (CEI) UAM+CSIC established in 2009.
