As a flagship research center in nanoscience and nanotechnology, our mission is to open and explore new frontiers of knowledge at the nanoscale, and bring value to society in the form of new understanding, capabilities, and innovation, while inspiring and providing broad training to the next generations of researchers. Our values are Commitment, Collaboration, and Transformation.
Our research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behaviour of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for three consecutive periods (2014-2018, 2018-2022, and 2023-2026). ICN2 comprises 20 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Job Title: Jr. Materials Informatics Engineer
Research area or group: Platform AI@ICN2
Description of Platform AI@ICN2/Project:
AI@ICN2 is an institutional platform designed to provide internal operational guidance and advanced tools that accelerate the adoption and development of machine learning (ML) methods across the centre. Its mission is supported by a set of strategic lines of action that include the co‑design and co‑implementation of AI/ML solutions for scientific research, the formation and upskilling of scientific and administrative staff in AI, and the leadership of strategic initiatives that embed artificial intelligence into ICN2’s core activities. The platform promotes good coding practices and open‑source software principles, aiming to become a central and transformative driver for scientific sustainability, innovation, and impact at ICN2.
The MDG‑25‑11914 project (2026–2027) aims to extend FAIR adoption to all ICN2 research groups and scientific divisions through e‑Lab Notebooks with structured templates, enabling FAIR‑by‑design data generation. This includes the creation of institutional AI‑ready catalogues and benchmarks, interoperability with PIDs and metadata, ML‑based automation of the taxonomy, and centralisation of data within a unified storage system with sustainability and infrastructure‑accreditation criteria.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Implementing the Research Data Management section of the ICN2 Data Management roadmap and contributing to the roadmap evolution.
• Cooperate with the research groups and division supports to create their research data architecture and their own research data management protocols.
• Data management advice to research groups, including creation of datasets and related metadata.
• Develop and support a Data sustainability certification
• Implementation of eLab Notebooks and templates.
• Development of reproducible catalogues and workflows.
• Metadata curation and data structuring.
• Development and execution of training of the research community in data architecture and data analysis automation.
• Participate in the Open Science and Sustainability committees to complete the strategy of a new scientific topic, called data-centric materials science.
