PhD Position in the Quantum Nanoelectronics and Nanomechanics Research Group

Join the frontier of quantum technology research!

ICFO is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the Quantum NanoElectronics and NanoMechanics group, led by Prof. Adrian Bachtold, one of the world's leading researchers in quantum nanoelectronic systems.

The successful candidate will work on groundbreaking research developing ultra-coherent charge qubits based on carbon nanotubes, coupling quantum electronic states to mechanical motion and exploring novel approaches to quantum sensing and quantum information technologies. The project combines quantum physics, nanotechnology, cryogenics, radio-frequency measurements, and quantum computing concepts, offering training with experimental techniques similar to those used by leading quantum computing companies.

What ICFO offers
• Fully funded PhD position in a world-class research institute
• International, interdisciplinary, and highly collaborative environment
• Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art quantum nanodevices and dilution refrigerators operating at milli-Kelvin temperatures
• Extensive training opportunities and participation in international conferences, schools, and scientific events
• PhD fellowship with competitive salary and social security coverage

Who should apply? Outstanding Master's graduates (or soon-to-be graduates) in physics, engineering, nanoscience, quantum technologies, or related fields who are passionate about experimental research and eager to pursue a career in quantum science.

Application deadline: 15 July 2026
