Research Engineer – Use of acoustic information in chatbots (RE1)

Context And Mission

The Language Technology Group in the Life Sciences Department is looking for a junior research engineer to work in the use of acoustic information in chatbots, involving Catalan. This work will be part of the ongoing AINA project to generate technology and language resources for the Catalan language.
The selected candidate will work in a highly sophisticated HPC environment, access state-of-the-art systems and computational infrastructures, and collaborate and work closely with the group members.

Key Duties

Develop innovative modules to generate new audio representations and wav2vecs to improve speech applications.
Participate in internal group meetings and other scientific discussions
Preparation and presentation of scientific articles
Collaborate in the preparation and presentation of scientific projects
Collaborate with the members of the group in the generation and evaluation of resources in Catalan


Requirements

Education
Bachelor in Electronic engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics, with specialization in speech processing and recognition, and background in computation
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Programming skills Linux, Python, git
Ability to access and evaluate scientific literature
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience Native competence in Catalan
Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English
Strong interest in Speech and Natural Language Processing
Competences
Good communication and presentation skills
Ability to work both independently and within a team


Conditions

The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department

Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
